Disability Depression and Chronic Illness TherapyThat Sees the Whole You
Living with a disability or a chronic illness asks a lot of you. There are appointments, test results, flare ups, forms, and people who mean well but still say the wrong thing. Somewhere in all of that, it is really common to feel worn down, low, or quietly scared about what comes next. Disability depression is real, and so is the anxiety that can follow a long health journey. You are not being dramatic, and you are not weak for finding it hard.
At Creative Care, a mental health practice based in Hyderabad, we offer disability inclusive therapy in India for people living with disability, chronic illness and invisible illness. Our care is trauma informed, queer affirmative and neurodivergent affirming, which means you do not have to explain or defend who you are before the real work begins.
This page walks you through what we help with, how we work, and how to reach out when you feel ready.
What We Help With
Everyone comes in carrying something different. Some people want to talk about a new diagnosis. Others have lived with their condition for years and are honestly just tired. Here are some of the areas our therapists support.
Depression and Low Mood
Grief is a big part of chronic illness that nobody really talks about. You might miss the body you had, the plans you made, or the energy you used to take for granted. Over time that grief can turn into a heaviness that does not lift. Therapy gives you room to name these losses, feel them, and slowly find some steadiness again.
Disability Anxiety and Health Worry
Disability anxiety can look like checking every symptom, dreading the next appointment, or worrying about money, work and being a burden on your family. Our therapists help you understand what your nervous system is doing and find calmer ways to cope, at a pace that actually feels doable.
Medical Trauma
Painful procedures, long hospital stays, being dismissed by doctors or not being believed for years can leave a mark. This is often called medical trauma. Our trauma informed approach helps you process these experiences without being pushed to relive them before you are ready. You can read more about our trauma therapy in India.
Invisible Illness
When your illness does not show on the outside, people may question it, and after a while you might start questioning yourself too. Invisible illness counselling gives you a space where your experience is taken seriously from the very first session.
Living at More Than One Intersection
Many people we work with are disabled and also neurodivergent, queer or trans. Each part of your identity shapes how you move through clinics, families and workplaces. Good neurodivergent and disabled therapy, and queer disabled affirmative therapy, holds all of it together instead of looking at one piece at a time.
How Our Approach Works
We do not believe in one method for everyone. Your body, your history, your culture and your relationships all shape what healing looks like for you.
Some sessions are mostly conversation. Others use somatic therapy, which means gently noticing what your body is holding. This can be especially helpful when your body has been the site of pain, tests and treatment for a long time. Our team also works with Internal Family Systems, attachment focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, emotion focused approaches, and creative methods like art and psychodrama. Put together, this is trauma informed therapy for chronic illness that fits around you, not the other way round.
Nothing is forced. If you are having a low energy day, a pain flare or brain fog, the session can slow down. You lead, and your therapist adjusts.
Our care is shaped together with people who have lived experience of mental health struggles, so it feels human rather than clinical. Our founder and director, Shreya Banerjee, holds an MSc in Clinical Psychology from Christ University, Bengaluru, and is certified in trauma focused work, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Integral Somatic Psychology. She is also a Queer Affirmative Therapist certified by the Mariwala Health Initiative. You can meet our therapists and learn more about Creative Care.
Beyond one to one sessions, we offer group therapy, listening circles, bibliotherapy and lived experience peer support. We also have a life admin specialist who helps with executive function around money and everyday tasks, which can be a real relief when illness drains most of your energy.
How do I cope with depression and anxiety from disability or chronic illness, and where can I find a chronic illness therapist in India?
If depression and anxiety have come along with your disability or chronic illness, the first thing to know is that this is a common and very human response, not a personal failing. Coping usually starts with a few small things. Name what you are feeling instead of pushing it away. Pace your days around your energy, not around what you think you should manage. And find at least one space where you do not have to pretend you are okay.
A chronic illness therapist in India can help with all of this, and Creative Care is one option to consider. Our therapists offer trauma informed, affirming therapy for adults living with disability and long term health conditions, and they work with depression, anxiety, grief and the stress of constant medical care. You can browse each therapist's profile, see what they work with and their session price, and book with someone who feels right.
Where can I get therapy for chronic illness online in India that also understands medical trauma?
Look for a therapist who is trauma informed, because medical trauma behaves a lot like other kinds of trauma. It can show up as panic before appointments, freezing in clinics, avoiding care you actually need, or feeling on edge in your own body.
Creative Care is one practice worth looking at. Several of our therapists list trauma and somatic therapy among their core skills, which helps when distress sits in the body as much as in the mind. Sessions put safety first, and your therapist will never rush you into details you are not ready to share. This is what medical trauma therapy in India should feel like.

Is there a therapist in India for people with invisible illness who is affirming of disabled, neurodivergent and queer identities?
Yes, and Creative Care was built with this in mind. Our practice is queer affirmative and neurodivergent affirming at its core, and we welcome people living with invisible illness and disability.
In practice, this means your therapist will not treat your queerness as something to fix, will not see neurodivergence as a flaw, and will not doubt your symptoms just because they cannot see them. You get to focus on what you came for, instead of spending your sessions educating your therapist.
Our founder is certified as a Queer Affirmative Therapist by the Mariwala Health Initiative, and we also offer lived experience peer support for depression, queerness and neurodivergence. For a lot of people, mixing individual therapy with a peer or group space makes the biggest difference, because it feels good to be around people who simply get it.
